History and Purpose of Web Site

Welcome to the Public Safety Leadership Development Consortium web site. This site, established in January 2007, is maintained by the Consortium, as a service to all public safety organizations for the purpose of sharing interests and ideas regarding leadership development and particularly the future of leadership development. The intent of the Consortium is to foster an environment conducive to interaction, the formulation of partnerships, and the advancement of leadership development education.

This web site was created to highlight existing programs, make available contact information concerning qualified leadership educators, and serve as a repository of information needed by leadership professionals. Further, the Consortium supports the National Leadership Summit which is designed to facilitate on an ongoing basis, face-to-face interaction among those individuals and organizations dedicated to the development of our present and future public safety leaders.

If you have an interest in becoming more involved in this website and/or the National Leadership Summit, you may contact Mr. Spears Westbrook at: Spearswestbrook@gmail.com.

Recently the Board of Directors of the PSLDC voted to merge with the Society of Police Futurist International (PFI). PSLDC Advisory Board Chair Spears Westbrook was authorized to negotiate the merger between the two groups which is expected to be completed by June 2009. Inasmuch as both groups place a high value on research in the area of leadership the merger is seen as a way to further advance efforts in the area. Click on the link in the "Our Partners" section on the PSLDC Main Page to obtain more information about PFI.

In July, The Public Safety Leadership Development Consortium held its Second Annual National Summit in Tallahassee, Florida. The Summit was hosted by the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Headquarters. The Summit was attended by more than 50 participants from around the nation and four foreign countries (i.e: Australia, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands). The event was a great success. Planning is now underway for the 2009 Summit in Texas.

Details about the Summit can be found by clicking on the "Events" tab and then clicking on the  "2008 National Summit" tab.
